“The Thiago Alves vs. Diego Sanchez match earmarked for 10/18 in Birmingham, England will not be taking place on the show. The Thiago Silva vs. Lyoto Machida match announced yesterday was to take its place. We don’t have an update yet on the status of Alves-Sanchez, other than the match has not been signed.”

Dave Meltzer reports that the welterweight showdown between Sanchez and Alves is not going to happen in Birmingham as previously reported. The good news is that is doesn’t mean it is off altogether — hopefully it’s just postponed until a later date. To check out the most recent UFC 89 card, which still looks sharp, click here.
