Aikido is Boring
At some point in your training you may reach a point when you say, "Aikido is boring! I don't want to do this anymore."
I've reached that point many times throughout the 16 years I've done Aikido. I've even quit several times; but there is just something about the way I learned Aikido and from whom I learned Aikido that completely changed my life.
For some reason, I keep doing it.
While in Japan, I remember a very good friend of mine, photographer, Mr. Sasaki, once counseled me. When you reach a wall, you have to find a way to climb over that wall. In everything you do, no matter what it is, you will usually hit a wall. That's what separates the quitters from the conquerors.
When you get to that point in Aikido when you start to think it's boring, you've hit a wall. A wall that shows how limited your thinking is. Can you get out of that "box"? Can you climb over or go through that wall? Are you going to make something out of Aikido?
A wall gives us a choice: #1. Do I want to quit? or #2. Am I going to learn something here? It's up to you to make the choice.

I'm so pleased that I finally discovered how to do the boat pose in pilates/yoga. I've always been under the impression my lower ab muscles are weak as getting to do these slow curls into and out of a boat pose are next to impossible for me at very low angles...and the yoga teacher finally said something which worked. She said that if your feet rise faster than your head, you'll never be able to do it...and I realised she was absolutely right. I was just raising my legs way faster than my head most times.
It's not really got anything to do with aikido but I thought there are also these moments in aikido when the instructor or one's sempai notes something and it suddenly makes sense. One of these aha moments. And they occur certainly in aikido as well.
I'm also rather pleased I've discovered these amazing soft terry towel material yoga pants that work also well as aikido bottoms...my aikido pants have a marked habit of wearing out at the knees long before my gi tops so these hit the spot nicely until the gi top wears out as well and I get a whole new set. |

This blog entry entitled "Learning Aikido by Watching Aikido Video" asserts, "If you are interested in learning aikido but do not have the time to attend classes in dojos or you are short of cash to enroll in an aikido class, then purchasing an aikido video would be suitable for you. By buying several aikido videos, you can learn the basic principles of martial arts. You can even learn the different aikido techniques and practice these in the comfort of your own place."
What are your thoughts on this subject, folks?
